The Steps You Should Take To Get Ready For College, The Workforce or Other Alternatives Following High School


Being in 12th grade is a busy, wonderful time. It is the finallast year of school for these students and the final year of being dependent on their parents and living at home. Many things are required to do during this final year to prepare for life after graduation whether it is heading off to college, preparing for the working world, or going on a gap year experience. It is time for them to get prepared for all of these things in addition to the other senior year items such as seeing a Cincinnati photographer to have your Cincinnati senior pictures done.

If you plan on going to a college or university, there are some steps you should take during your final year of high school if not sooner. To best way, to get a good feel of a school is going there to see it in person. Viewing a school online or through brochures is totally different than visiting the campus and the students in person. This will help you to really know if you can visualize yourself there as a student. Also, planning a meeting with the admissions office of the school is helpful to understand all of the requirements to not only getting into the school but other important information like scholarships and financial aid. If you are unsure where to look, meet with your high school guidance counselor to get their feedback on what they may think would be a good fit for you.

If you do not think going to college is the right path for you, then it is important to look into other choices for this while you are in school. Many high schools have a vocational program that you may be able to enter during your final 2 years of high school that will not only give you your high school diploma but will also give you job and career training in a field you may be interested in working. For example, if you enjoy cooking, you may be trained to be a pastry chef or if you love doing hair, you can trained in cosmetology. This will help your quest a rewarding career that much closer onceas soon as you graduate.

If you are not sure what you want to do after graduation, you can do what is known as a gap year experience. Some students may think they are not quite ready to head to college yet and this is a wonderful option to gain some great learning experiences and to help them mature. Gap year experiences may include anything from traveling and living in another country, doing community service for an organization or doing a post graduate school year to work on your academics or your athletics.

If you begin planning in your junior or senior year, you will be well prepared for your life and the choices following high school. With some help from your parents, teachers and guidance counselors hopefully you can find the best choice for you.
